Ecuador Coffee Cherry Market Overview:

Ecuador is one of the few countries in the world where coffee production is likely to occur nationwide, including the Galapagos Islands. Fifty percent of coffee production is found in the coastal provinces of Ecuador. The province of Manabí accounts for about 25 percent of total production, based in the Jipijapa region. The Amazon and Sierra Leone (30) regions make up about 30 percent of each coffee produced in Ecuador. Robusta coffee is grown in the Amazon, while Arabica coffee is grown along the coast and in the highlands. There are about 60,000 coffee growers in the country.

Most of the coffee produced in Ecuador is produced on small farms. About 62 % of coffee farmers have one hectare, 33 % have between one and five hectares and 5% of farmers have more than five hectares.

When the Ecuadorian coffee industry lost its competitiveness in the 1990s due to the influx of new productive countries, domestic production was replaced by imported beans from Vietnam and more recently from Brazil. By 2020 and due to the status of COVID-19, exports of coffee beans were limited as shipping costs rose between 78 and 85 % for major suppliers: Brazil and Vietnam.

The cosmetics and use of personal care products have increased dramatically over the past decade.
